About fifty years ago, a remarkable group of figure skaters, their coaches, their families, and U.S. officials boarded Sabena Flight 548, bound for Prague, to participate in the 1961 World Championships. Their plane crashed near the Brussels airport on February 15, 1961, killing all on board. Their lives were cut short but their influence continues to this day.
This site celebrates the thirty-four members of the skating delegation and their contributions to U.S. Figure Skating, past and present.
